Why can't I speak properly?!

Question: Why can't I speak properly?
I know English perfectly. It's my first language, and I think I can write and type it quite well. But when I speak to anyone, if I know them or not, I mix my words up.

I will start speaking well, and then I seem to go just a little quieter, and my words will just get mixed up and I don't say what it is that I wanted to. Sometimes I will completely freeze when I'm speaking.

I find it really frustrating because I know exactly what I want to say, but those words won't come out, no matter how much I try.

I have been out with my best friend today. We have known each other for 8 years. We are happy around each other, so its not that I'm scared or anything. I can think of a number of times when it happened to me. Also when I made my order at Burger King, he had to take over from me half way through because my voice froze again. It can be embarrassing, frustrating, and upsetting.

Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks.

i've seen it happen to people who are stressed, anxious, nervous, over excited. maybe you shouldn't worry about if its gona happen again because that might trigger it to happen again. u might act or feel a certain way but your body can sometimes respond in another way. try to calm down and take deep breaths before you speak, and just take your time when you speak to people, whose in a rush?? some people have anxiety and dont even know it. you can ask a doctor to refer you to a speech therapist, that might help as well..my brother is exactly like you described, but the only difference is that he has a severe stuttering problem but hes actually improving a little. well i hope i helped, good luck! :)

i have that trouble too .. i think its because you talk to fast and the words start to come out in the wrong order like if you say i want a drink of water and a cake ... it comes out like i want a drink of cake and .... then goes quiet ... just talk slower i spose ..

Do you have a peculiar feeling at the same time you get these speech mixups? It might be a petit mal seizure. Tell your parents or your doctor.

It could be something else, like a speech disorder. The King of England had a speech disorder/stutter. He just had to work on it for his public speeches.

maybe you have a stammer. i have it a bit - sometimes my mouth just can't make words come out. it's annoying, but unless it's a serious issue, try and live with it. or see a speech therapist if it's really getting you down
