What are the health risks of 5-hour energy shots?!

Question: What are the health risks of 5-hour energy shots?
From the little bit of research that I have done, they seem to be fairly harmless but how often is too often? I usually drink between 3 and 7 of these per week. Should I worry about any specific health risks from this?

Yes. They usually have a massive amount of caffeine and stimulants usually and should only be used sparingly IMO. Note that advertisements (at least the ones I'VE seen) only say they have a "modest" amount of caffeine- they don't tell you how many milligrams per milliliter there are in it.

Especially since they are not regulated it is easy to overdose on caffeine with these products if you don't use them sparingly. Even if they only have a moderate amount of caffeine can lead to arrhythmias and over problems from caffeine toxicity.

Add in to this that there are many, many other sources of caffeine that people take in daily: Coffee, lattés, cappuccino, sodas, chocolate, some pain and migraine medications...the list goes on and on. That makes it even EASIER to overdose on caffeine since most people aren't keeping track of their caffeine intake- even if they use the 5 hour energy drink as recommended they generally don't do so while also keeping track of caffeine intake.

If you're looking for a boost in energy eating something healthy, such as juice and a sandwich and/or taking a quick nap would probably be a LOT more beneficial and healthier in the long run.

They'll eat a hole in your wallet for next to nothing in gain.
