Broken ankle...Clicking noise?!

Question: Broken ankle...Clicking noise?
I recently had surgery on my ankle in December 2010. I broke my ankle on both the inner and outer sides, and had 7 screws and 2 plates put in. I'm wearing my walking boot right now (i still have a cast, with a strapped on black shoe) and i've noticed that my ankle clicks when i put my weight on it. Is this normal? I go in to get my cast removed and my new free-leg walking boot next week...woo hoo! no more cast!..... I'm going to bring it up to my doc next time i see him, but i'm just curious if anyone has experienced this sensation before??

(P.S.- I POSTED THIS IN THE INJURIES SECTION ALSO, TO GET MORE RESULTS)

The only sure way to know is talk to your doc. Have him take new xrays that day and have him show you what he is talking about. It may be the plates and screws, it may be bone hitting bone. I have reconstructive heel surgery (sort of, I crushed my heel practically to powder 4 years ago and was told we had to let new bone grow around the old crushed bone because you can't "reconstruct" the heel) Well, the bone grew back oblong and super thick. My new doc got in there shaved my heel down inserted the shavings into another spot to shim my ankle. After healing, my pain shifted from the right side of my ankle to the top of my foot.
As it turns out I still had two screws in there and the plan was to remove those when he straightened out my hammer toes yesterday. The doc said the rigid screws were preventing my bones from flexing which contributed to the pain. Also it can take up to 6 months or more for the swelling to completely go away, which can change how things align and move in your foot.

Experience. message me if you need more info or support. This is a pain in the *** recovering from foot/ankle damage and it may help talking to someone who is also currently going through it.

it is normal you have metal plates and screws it is only them making contact or the bones hitting it is very normal just dont apply too much pressure
