The right side of my neck is extremely sore, what can I do?!

Question:

The right side of my neck is extremely sore, what can I do?

I slept for 11 hours straight today, and I guess I stayed in the wrong position or slept different than normal. The right side of my neck is extremely tense and hurts like heck. I've tried to stretch the muscle out and I've taken two advil. It hasn't helped and I'm tired of not being able to turn my head to the right without it almost bringing me to tears. Any suggestions on something I can do to help it ease off faster? I've been trying to work it out for over two hours now and it hasn't eased off at all.

Answers:

You poor thing! Sounds like you have probably trapped a nerve and your neck muscle has gone into a spasm. Advil won't do the trick...try something like ibuprofen...an anti-inflammatory pill. Don't over exert the muscle. Ease and stretch it gently. You could also try using hot and cold compresses. First a hot compress (very hot towel)...place it on the sore area...leave it for a few minutes and then do the same with a cold compress. It will go in a day or so. Hope you feel better soon.
