Help with hand sanitizer please ? Medical reasoning please.?!

Question: Help with hand sanitizer please ? Medical reasoning please.?
Is it really okay to use hand sanitizer ? My mother and father are saying they think it's bad and stuff . But it says it's okay but really, It's not killing any germs, it's putting a layer on to hide it . So, its it good or bad ? Medical reasoning to back it up , thanks . :)

Answers:

Hand sanitizer does kill germs. It is even used in hospitals by nurses when they are in a situation where getting to a sink is not handy. Just be sure to use enough to get your hands thouroughly covered. Rub it in good including between your fingers and the tips of the finger at the place where the fingernail tip meets the finger. I'm a nurse and it does work. Hospitals couldn't accept it's use if it didn't as they must adhere to the standards of the communicable disease council (CDC).

Soap gets rid of dirt. Hand sanitiser gets rid of germs.
If you're in a high risk area with germs..ie working in a hospital or preparing food then use the sanitiser. If not, soap will suffice. There's no need for everyone to be using sanitiser all the time. We need some exposure to bugs to develop some resistance. Dirt is not your enemy!!:P

Yea it works the active ingredients are usually isopropanol, ethanol, n-propanol, or povidone-iodine. all of which kill germs. Your mom and are just old school. Trust physicians and doctors and sanitize.
