Sounds like the sinus drainage is a big part of the problem, perhaps the whole problem. Try some Nasonex nasal spray at bedtime for a couple of weeks. Only use this once a day. Lots of the mucous should drain out shortly after you use it and it will decrease the drainage through the next day. Also to use Mucinex to help thin the secretions so they drain easier. A warm salt water gargle may help a little but that is more for a sore throat. You'll need to dissolve the salt (about a teaspoon in a glass of water) while the water is pretty hot and then cool it til' it is only warm. Two things that can contribute to a hoarse voice are lots of coughing and clearing your throat repetitively. Avoid the throat clearing, it apparently isn't helping anyway and may make your voice worse. If the drainage persists for over a week you may need to see a doctor for an antibiotic since you probably have a sinus infection but I really suspect the mucous is the primary source. I wouldn't really worry that much about a hoarse throat, every one gets this occassionally and should not think it is weird.

well you are talking like you have gravel in your throat because you are sick and have -hm- mucus/boogers in your throat sounds gross but that's the ugliest bit.
id say boil some hot water put lots of salt in it and gargle it in the morning and at night it will help soothe your throat.
If you have any chest congestion it can make your voice sound funny. The only thing you can do is rest your voice and wait til the congestion clears up. You can use something like robitussin dm to help loosen up the congestion.
