How long do I apply vaseline jelly to a wound that required 6 stitches?!

Question:

How long do I apply vaseline jelly to a wound that required 6 stitches?

I had surgery on my face near my ear 2 weeks ago that required 6 stitches. I was told to apply vaseline to the wound starting on Saturday. How long do I keep putting vaseline on the area, and what does it do for the scar tissue?

Answers:

Put the vaseline on daily for at least five days after your stitches come out or until the incision is healed. Vaseline protects the wound from germs entering and increases moisture, helping it to heal nicer. Any time skin is moist, it rejuvenates quicker, which is why scar therapy products work. The main idea behind the vaseline is to keep germs out and keep the area from drying out, leaving a worse scar. I would use the vaseline 2 wks if it were me, but for at least one week. You can use it as long as you want to until the area is less red and obviously well-healed. Good luck.
