There isn't any caffeine in Tylenol #3. Perhaps you're thinking of codeine, the narcotic agent in the pill, an opiate for mild pain relief.

A good article listing all the ingredients of the medication:

(By the way, caffeine is a vasoconstrictor, not a dilator. It acts to "squeeze" blood vessels, decreasing their diameter via a complex chemical mechanism.)

RN

Caffeine pushes the blood through arteries much faster. It is a vasodilator. It opens the blood vessels and from my understanding Tylenol 3 does not contain any caffeine. Only Tylenol and Codeine.

Nursing Degree

Caffeine in small amounts acts as a pain reliever. It can relieve headaches and minor pains.
