My foot is in a cast and my toes are purple, swollen, and hot to the touch. Shou!

Question: My foot is in a cast and my toes are purple, swollen, and hot to the touch. Should I go to the dr?
So I broke three metatarsals, and it took forever for the swelling to go down so I could get a hard cast (2 weeks). Should I tell the dr. to put it back in a soft splint? Part of the problem iss I can't elevate it all the time going to school and work etc.

Answers:

Elevate your whole leg immediately! Massage your toes and any parts of your leg you can. Go straight to back to the hospital who fitted the cast. This is VERY VERY URGENT! If you do not get help with this right now it could cause an extremely serious problem - you could lose your leg! So ACT NOW! Go immediately for assistance. The cast is probably too tight. If the foot is inflamed and burning it may be that you have some sort of infection which has caused swelling. This would explain why the cast is now too tight for you. You must go to the Doctor or preferably the Hospital where they fitted the cast. Please do not wait - GO NOW! Keep massaging your toes as much as possible during the journey to hospital and if possible keep your leg eleavated as well.

I would go to the doctor now, because if your toes are turning purple that's a tell tale sign that the cast is too tight and your losing circulation to your foot. I would go to the doctor now if you don't want problems with your toes having to be amputated. Good luck!

I've broken 6+ bones and they have always swelled to the point that they turn purple.

Part of the problem is probably failure to keep it elevated, but you need to have it looked at before you have any further is issues.

yes go to the dr.
