Question about growing pains for teen boys?!

Question: Question about growing pains for teen boys?
My son ( Freshman in Highschool, 15 yrs. )has been experiencing back pain off and on for the past few months so I took him to the doctor recently and he said they were growing pains and he is a "late boomer" meaning going through puberty late and the back pain was attributed to that. However, I'm going to take him again tomorrow maybe or some xrays b/c the pain hasn't subsided. But I do notice when he is playing with his friends he does not complain & there seems to be no pain, so I'm not sure if its an attention thing or he really is in pain and can growing pains cause back pain?

Growing pain are usually in the legs not the back. ........... Get a second opinion.

Never heard of back pains as growing pains?

and when they are out with their mates playing they tend to forget they are in pain.
My son hurt his heel, yet lol, it doesn't bother him when he plays football..yet walking into town it can start hurting him.

Push for another doctor opinion just to be sure

Number 1 Rule : Go get another opinion

now here's my answers : I had and still have the same issue, I'm almost 18 and have suffered from back pains since I was 15/16 and I had visited the doctors, they gave me pains killers (what a joke that was)
went back and saw another person who recommended physio therapy, did that for a few months but didn't ease up. so went back once again and I then got a consultant for an x-ray because they thought It could have been an stress fracture, but thank god results showed nothing!.

I then got referred to have an MRI scan as this entailed a better depth of detail, and when I got the results guess what came up! no breaks or cracks or tumours thank God! but simply my back plates have movement still going on and it had a area of around 3-4 inches, since then I've grown between 1-2 inches in my back and still growing, I really am a late bloomer as height is concerned (5ft 9 now)

But like I said go to a doctor, try physio, try scans try everything in your power as nothing can be ruled out until your doctor is certain.

As regards to him playing, well another experience of mine is when i played football I was fine but after I would be in agony aching all over and finding it hard to move, so I took a break for a while but came back and it still aches even today (obviously not as much) but you just got to get on with life.

GOOD LUCK! and I hope its nothing troublesome, I understand the pain and growing pains can be well... painful lol
