It's because you are scared to fall a sleep because of the nightmares, you need to feel the present of someone to fall a sleep you should get a big teddy-bear and sleep next to it, ot put a pocket-knife under your pillow. It help me sleep when I am having nightmares.

when your mind is full of thoughts u can't have a good sleep.
clean and rearrange your home giving it new appearance. remove all the unnecessary things and make arrangements to improve security. have a wash every evening and wear clean, light clothes. take dinner at least half an hour before u go to bed.it is ok if u take your dinner much earlier. but have something before u go to bed. brush your teeth and use bathroom just before u go to bed.this will help for a continuous sleep. switch off all the bulbs and go to bed.keep on counting from 100-1 until u fall sleep.keep your concentration on that.when ever your mind goes away start counting again.this will be harder at start.but keep on.this will help u a lot and will keep night mares away from u. go to bed at the time u feel sleepy and sleep about 7-8 hours. keep a regular time to go to bed and wake up. so as time passes your body will act according to that time.
don't forget to take your breakfast.
what u see(night mare) is not the reality. so just forget it if u wake up in the night and keep on counting until u fall sleep
good luck

General sleep help is to go to sleep and get up the same time every day, and take no naps.

But what you really need is to deal with whatever is giving you nightmares. If you don't have someone close to confide in, see a therapist. They can help your anxiety.
