Sleep apnea?!

Question:

Sleep apnea?

There are many nights when i fall asleep that i will wake up and my pulse will be very fast. Then I will fall asleep for about 15 minutes and the same thing. This goes on for about two hours and then I am finally able to stay asleep. Does anyone think this is sleep apnea or do you think it could be something else? If so what?

Answers:

I think it's either anxiety or a sleep disorder that is NOT sleep apnea, but you can get a sleep study done to find out for sure. Typically hypoxia- or lack of oxygen- is a problem with apnea, due to tonsils, uvula and other tissues blocking the airway. This tends to lower the heart rate more than raise it.
