My Mom is losing the use of her right leg and right side hip. This came on prett!

Question:

My Mom is losing the use of her right leg and right side hip. This came on pretty sudden.?

She has tried steriod injections in both the right leg and in the hip. She is also taking Neurontin . Nothing is helping and her syptoms are getting worse. The doctors can't seem to figure it out. Has anyone else experienced this and if so, were you given any kind of diagnosis?

Answers:

I have absolutely experienced this, Your Mom needs a MRI immediately. Odds are that she has a disc ruptured into her sciatic nerve. X Rays will not detect this condition. I went undiagnosed with condition for 1 1/2 yrs and suffered tremendously, it also caused me some permanent nerve damage.
I also thought that I had hip problems, but the fact is, this kind of pain is displaced. The sciatic nerve runs from the middle of your lower back, down the side of the hip and thigh, crosses your shin and goes over foot to big toe.
Before I had my surgery I was almost 90% bbedridden with pain, and when I was up I was dragging my right leg.. The longer she goes on like this the worse it will get, without easing the nerve from the original injury it WILL NOT heal itself.
My advice is that at this point the only doctor that she can rely on to treat her properly and promptly is a Neurosurgeon, and I would also say, that they will deem her in the emergency category. Does she have any incontinence? When that happens it is a definite emergency.
If I can help you in any way, please e mail through this site and I will send you my real email address.
I feel for her, and hope she gets some relief soon!! No one knows that kind of pain until you go through it.
