Help with cutting myself and keeping it from scarring?!

Question: Help with cutting myself and keeping it from scarring?
I have been going crazy inside about something(s) that have happened to me, I recently started cutting myself and it helps A LOT but is everyone really right that it is so bad? If it is an alternative to suicide isn't it a good thing? And if not, does anybody know where I can find free therapy in or around Hollister, CA? I am laid off, and because I have epilepsy I am not ok to drive. How can I keep the cuts from scarring? I love the feeling that all I need is my razor and any pain I am feeling just goes away. Yeah, I know, silly that I cut myself because I don't want to hurt, but it works. But I'm a little worried because I need it more and more every day BUT I AM DONE CRYING. I'm not just a confused teenager either I'm 32 years old, journeyman carpenter, kids, wife, house, etc. I tried to show my wife and she just asked what the f$#! is wrong with me. IDK who else to talk to about it.

Hey there,

Sorry to hear about all the awful things that have happened to you, Yes cutting is extremely bad I have been doing it for ten years so far (I'm 24 now) and when I started I thought it was great too I thought all my emotional problems were made better by cutting but the truth is they were always still there the cutting was just a temporary release. I started off with minor scratches and cuts that were "no big deal" but they get deeper and deeper and next thing you know your going into hospital once a week to get stitched up it's not worth it it doesn't solve any problems it just takes control of you and you'll end up secluding yourself from everyone in fear of them finding out or trying to stop you. You also risk - nerve damage causing you to lose the movement of whichever limb you are cutting or a bad infection that could cause you to lose a limb... Could you picture never being able to hold your kids again? The temporary release isn't worth it. I know you also said your kids don't know but as kids get older they wise up and they will figure it out this is something that scares the hell out of me because my scars will never go away I don't want my children to know about self harm at an early age because they are so likely to test it out as kids do.

Above is a link to therapy places near your area (sorry I'm in melbourne so I don't really know much about the area you live) Please see somebody soon before you become so addicted it just takes over your life see your doctor about a mental health care plan they give you the first 5 appointments free I believe and you can get money back on medicare.

Hope you get help soon for the sake of yourself, your kids, your marriage because self harm WILL affect everyone in your life and will put a massive strain on anyone that cares about you.

By the way you can expect most people to get angry about your cutting they sometimes don't understand or it just scares them to the point of yelling maybe ask your wife to research self harm so she has a better understanding of what you are going through.

Stay Safe.

instead of cutting your self, wrap a elastic band around your wrist and ping it hard, it does help and you dont get the mess and the scarring. i feel for you. wish you all the best xx

cutting yourself is never the answer. you could hit a main artery and your arm and bleed out and die. thats not the way you wanna die. what you need to do is write out your feelings. get a journal or something and just write everything out that you feel. and keep it. go back and read it ot remind yourself. you can do so much better than that and life is not worth loosing over something so small. life is precious. live your live one minute at a time have no regrets. and another thing set an example for your kids. you wouldnt want them cutting themselves correct?? be a role modle and stand up and face your problems then it will all be over with.
