Is my ear piercing infected?!

Question: Is my ear piercing infected?
I got my ears pierced two months ago for the second time. I started changing the earrings two weeks ago and now my right ear is hurting. When I take out the earring in that ear it hurts to put it back in and there is crusty stuff on the earring post. Is my ear infected? What should I do?

It sounds like. It is difficult to get these to heal without first removing the earring.

GP for more years than I care to remember

Your supposed to use only the same type of earning you got your ears pierced with for atleast a year meaning if you got them pierced with silver you should keep using silver. And its way to soon to be using dangling earings . Studs are the best for now. But for the crusty part either use the cleaning solution they gave you when you got them pierced if you didn't get them professional done you can pick some up at claire' s or WalMart in the jewelry section of coarse until you get some use warm water and only apply it with a qtip. Never your finger it could just make it worse or not let it heal at all.

I used to pierce ears at claire's :)

Yup, sounds like its infected but its no big deal.
First take a piece of ice and hold it to your ear, it will feel good and numb it so you can put the earring back in.
Second, once the earring is in, just clean your ear like 3 or 4 times a day with disinfecting soap.
And thats really all there is to it. Your ear will be fine. ps:the ice trick really works

I had an infected ear

Yes, mildly by the sounds of it but this is not a major problem. The best antiseptic for the painless cleaning of piercings is hydrogen peroxide. Do it three times a day and as the other person said do not take the piercing out just twist it gently three times a day.

You shouldn't remove the piercing for at least the first three months for it to heal. Of course its gonna hurt if when it isn't healed yet. Keep the earring on until its fully healed and clean it often without taking it off.
