Why don't you feel pain when you are asleep?!

Question:

Why don't you feel pain when you are asleep?

I have noticed that everytime I have certain types of pain i can feel it while im awake but I tend to fall asleep and don't feel anything during that period and wake up with little or no pain, which made me wonder.

Answers:

you probably still have the pain but are not awre of it because when you sleep your brain kind of 'shuts down' so you don't realize you're in pain.
