A friend of mine went to the hospital last month because she broke her knee, she died hours after being sent home from the hospital.

Iatrogenic Illness is the leading cause of death in the US.

OMG! I am deeply sorry for your loss. As many has said the odds of a broken wrist killing anyone is extremely thin. However, the description you gave everyone on how she reacted to the surgery reminded me of when I went into seizures two hours after I had my wisdom teeth extracted. I was put under and after I got home I immediately went into seizures. Doctor explained that it was my bodies reaction to the amount of pain I was in, my body went into full shock. If I had been alone I would have died. Everyones body reacts to pain differently. Empower yourself dear, ask questions and speak to someone. Stay strong and take care.

While it is rare to die from a broken wrist, it can happen as a result of the surgery or a compound fracture (if that was the case). There is the chance that she died as the result of an infection. A coroner will determine the cause of death. If the hospital was negligent, your parents have the option of suing. I am very sorry for your loss.

It could be any number of factors: She could have had a pre-existing condition that she had no knowledge of or even symptoms.

Your best option is to request an Autopsy report to pin point the cause of death. I am not an expert but I know people who have died suddenly as well with no apparent symptoms or reason. It happens.

wow i'm sorry to hear that. you can never tell how your body will react to things. whether it be the meds, the stress of going under the knife, do some research on what exactly caused it and what procedures went on, and maybe you can even sue the hospital for wrongful death?

She probably got an infection. Surgery rooms are very clean but sometimes disease gets left behind from a previous patient. If this is the case and got into her wound, it could kill her quickly. Sorry for your loss. Hopefully they find out what caused this to give you some closure. Ill say a prayer for her.

likely malpractice.
