Answers:

Pain is defined as "An unpleasant sensation occuring in varying degrees of severity as a consequence of injury disease, or emotional disorder" (American Heritage Dictionary).

Pain is used in one physical manner as a protection. It is a warning sign that something is occuring that should not be happening, that is out of the norm. For example, when you are ironing, and you feel the stem, you know to move your hand back quickly. Or if you touch something sharp, you know that you need to move you hand back quickly, because that hurt. Physical pain is a sensation that comes from the nerve endings in our body, and it travels to our brain, and the brain responds back, by moving your body part out of the way of the situation, to remove you from the pain. Alot of people refer to the brain as our information-processing center of our body. We have nerve endings everywhere in our human body. These nerve endings lie everywere just beneath the surface of the skin, and they are connected to our muscles, and other tissues and organs in our body. Our nervous system has various parts such as afferent nerve (Carry messages to the spinal cord, and brain) fibers and their receptors, efferent fibers (Carry messages away from the nervous system to organs) with their muscles and glands, and lastly the central nervous system, which is our spinal cord and brain.

The afferent fibers deal with such things as heat, cold, touch, and pain. So the reason why you feel pain when you bump you elbow or your toe is because the afferent fibers are carrying messages from the point to the brain letting your brain know that there is pain.

The efferent fibers deal with such thing as your stomach growling due to hunger, or if you feel your arm muscle jumping.

Emotional pain occurs as people react to serious, sad, and traumatic event or situations. Such as a car accident, a breakup from a serious relationship, or a loss of a job. It can occur from serious things such as war, or dealth of a loved one just to name a few. Unlike physical pain, one may be effected by emotional pain by the decreased energy, depression, panic attacks, or crying just to name a few. The main factors of emotional pain are the occurance of unexpected situations, one not being prepared for an event, and one not feeling like they have control over a situation. Emotional trauma occurs in the brain. There have been brain scans done and there has been noticed that there is a change that occurs between the structure and the function of the brain. The point where the emotional point of the brain, and the survival part of the brain come together.

Mental pain is also know as mental illness. This is completely different from physical and emotional pain. Mental illness is a disease or a condition that affects the brain. Emotional pain is a situation that occured which caused a difference in how the brain causes the body to react. Such as becoming unable to sleep, or the lack of the need to eat. A mental illness is a condition that affects how a person reacts, behaves, or relates to those around them, as well as their surroundings. Alot of mental illnesses occur due to such factors as genetic, biological, psychological and environmental factors. Mental illness never depends on what happens to someone as far as as physical or emotional situations. Many mental illnesses run in families which shows the possiblity of a mental illness being genetic.

Scientifically speaking physical pain is caused by nerve impulses which are carried to the brain by nerve endings. Emotional pain is caused by changes in the brain due to emotional situations, and mental pain is actually mental illness which is genetic, which means it can occur in families, when it is passed from parent to child during conception.
