Heat exhaustion even after hydrating?!
Question:
Heat exhaustion even after hydrating?
Yesterday I was the best man at an outdoor wedding. For whatever reason, it was scheduled for 3 pm on a day that peaked at 92 degrees. (I live in NC) I probably spent 3 hours outside, when you count in the pre ceremony stuff, the actual event, and posing for pictures afterwards. I probably drank 7 pints of water during that time, but I still ended up feeling dizzy, sleepy, trouble concentrating, I even had trouble speaking when I gave the toast at the reception. I was wearing a full tux during this event, of course. My wife had to drive us home afterwards because I was feeling really nauseous. I threw up a couple times, then felt better, but still shaky. After a good nights sleep and eating this morning I feel back to normal. I went into this knowing it was going to be unpleasant, but I drank water all day, including before. Is it normal to get heat exhaustion just from wearing too many clothes, even if you drink tons of water?
Answers:
yes, rehydrating takes more than just water.
in the future try sports drinks, and make sure your sodium intake when in the heat is higher than normal.
