Question about IV's...?!

Question: Question about IV's...?
I was in the hospital for 3 days and had an IV in my hand.. it was a little sore but not bad, and I didn't even bruise.

Four days later I went back to the hospital for a surgery and they put another IV in the same hand but in a different vein. This time it was really sore and a bruise came up a few days later (blue color, I thought the vein burst.. the nurse wasn't really paying attention to what she was doing..)

Now it's a whole week later and the vein from the first visit is swollen and my entire hand hurts. The bruising went away but the pain is intense. It's traveled down past my wrist now, and my wrist is swollen. It feels a lot like a pinched nerve, but it's all over my hand.

Does this sound normal or does it sound like something is wrong??? I've had plenty of IV's in my life, but I haven't experience this before... =\

Most of the time the nurses do a great job but, sometimes they get to rough. It sounds like an infection and really needs to be looked at.

I have no medical training but, my sister is a nurse.

It most certainly isn't normal. It could be a nerve stick or internal infection.
Give your doctor a call and see what he/she says.

All the best.
