How does lack of sleep affect you?!

Question: How does lack of sleep affect you?
So, I sleep an average of 5- 5 1/2 hours of sleep each school night. On weekends, I usually sleep for about 9 hours though. I've been keeping this up for a few months now. Anyway, I told my friend about me sleeping only 5 hours, and she said I'm killing myself. I heard lack of sleep can affect your life span and health, but how?

Hi Eleanor
sleeping longer than 8 hours has also proved to be a problem, so they say anything over 5 hours and a maximum of 8 hours is a good thing sleep helps to recharge your system it makes you more awake.

There is a big difference in the need for sleep between individuals. But there is no known biological basis for different needs of sleep during the week and in the weekend. So it looks like you sleep a bit to little, and that you compensate in the weekends. So try sleeping 6 hours and see what happens.

I turn into the hulk.
