Stubbing my toe after bunion surgery?!

Question:

Stubbing my toe after bunion surgery?

Almost three weeks out of bunion surgery, I lost my balance and somehow managed to swing my right foot forward so that my big toe hit me square in the calf. It REALLY hurt at first, so I immediately iced it and took an Advil to keep down any swelling. The pain has subsided and my toe seems to be back in its normal position, but I'm really scared that I re-opened the fracture. I was supposed to get my pins out in just nine more days, and I was really looking forward to it (cause they're irritating and painful and preventing me from bearing weight) but now I'm scared that I'm going to have to start the healing process all over again. I feel like my bones are more wobbley than usual, but I can't tell if I'm just being paranoid and imagining it or if they really are. It's really late at night on a Saturday (or early in the morning on a Sunday), so I really have no one to ask until Monday.

Answers:

the best thing to do in the mean time is to do the ice on for 20 minutes for the first 48 hours.

I just had my knees done, and 3 weeks out *just yesterday took a bad fall. I really feel for you.
I have been on ice for the last 24 hours off and on, and staying off my feet. AND bed rest.

I too have to wait until Monday to call the doctor....
BUT-- If you are really worried, i know it's late, but WE can always call and have the doctor paged.
Call a friend or family member to come sit with us.
(i was so angry and felt so dumb!!)
Now I too have to heal all over again, once over the inital shock, I did give my doctor a call, they paged him, and in the mean time I talked to the tri-age nurse on night duty.

Talking to someone, was very comforting to me.
Icing really helped, and I was told to take tylonal, not aleve or advil, due to bruising and thinning of the blood.

I wish you the best of luck, and there's always the ER for an x-ray. I do hope this helps.

YOU aren't the only one who's fallen after some major medical procedure.
