Just burnt my hand on an open flame?!

Question: Just burnt my hand on an open flame?
Im typing this with my left hand while I dunk my right hand in cold water. I was playing with a lighter around 20 minutes ago, a tissue then caught fire and stupidy I tried to put it out with my hand. I've got minor burns on my thumb and on the finger next to the little one. The skin isn't broken but one of the burns is hard and yellowish and the other is yellowish and tender.

Please help?

owww. that must be painful. It's good you've put it in cold water. This is what u should do at home about this:

Cool the skin using cool, or tepid, water for between 10-30 minutes, ideally within 20 minutes of the injury happening. This will prevent the burn getting worse.

Do not use ice, iced water, creams, or greasy substances, such as butter to sooth the burn. A cool bath, or shower, will help to soothe the burn.

Cover the burn using cling film, in a layer over the burn, rather than wrapping it around a limb. A clean, clear plastic bag is suitable to use for burns on your hand.

If the burn is painful, taking a mild painkiller, such as paracetamol, or ibuprofen, can help. However, always check the packaging to make sure that you take the correct dosage.

Do not interfere with the burn, or break any blisters. If the burn is very painful, or seems to be getting worse, consult your local doctor.

dont use water that is too cold as the rapid cooling can cause damage to you skin and nerves. now i cant legally tell you to take any meds, but what i do when i get burnt is take an anti inflammatory med like ibuprofen and it feels much better if it starts to swell more or ooze seek. EMT protocols state that burns to the hands of the type you have should be transported to the hospital for immediate treatment, which i personally recommend.

Firefighter-EMT, WFR, Lifeguard

you learn the hard way, i too play with fire all the time and got burnt. put your burnt hand into green beans water. open a can of green beans and strain it, keep the liquid; add ice to cool it and dunk your hand in submerging it. keep as long as you can keep it in till your finger & thumb stop hurting

Dunk in cold water for as long as you can and then dry and smear antiseptic cream on the burns. If you need to put a plaster over to protect them. Just keep the burns clean and reapply cream as necessary.

There is nothing to worry about. The Flame just burnt your skin and It is normal that it is yellow don't but your hand in water or anything or do not rub it it may cause pain.

Oh my gosh. You can't have anything heat-related around you, can you?! First you almost burnt your house down making toast...now your playing with lighters! My, my......amy.

Now.....DO NOT apply ice. Keep it soaked. Cover your hand with gauze unless its oozing. A clean towel will also work. (Swelling, redness, and oozing are signs of infection...so watch for that, and if you notice any of that, call a doctor immediately). Aspirin, Ibuprofen, or acetaminophen should also aid in killing the pain:)

I hope this helps...Oh and visit formspring with your left hand:) you haven't been on in a LONNNNG time..

Haha good thing i paid attention in my health classes:D
