Answers:

the noise is normal if you get it once in a while. but if you have twisted it and or landed on your knee, there might be something else going on. there are several injuries to the knee that i know of:

-meniscus tear
-lateral collateral ligament
-medial collateral ligament tears,
-anterior cruciate ligament
-posterior cruciate ligament tears.

the most common for a twisting injury or falling onto the knee would be the anterior cruciate ligament, and i'd say the meniscus tear. they can cause the knee to "pop." (that is what you hear). the only way to find out is to have an MRI (special x-ray that is able to see your tisue) and your doctor can refer you to that. physical therapy can help, but they can only do soo much.. the MRI will be able to tell you how much tear you have of the meniscus or ligaments and from there, your doctor will tell you the treatment options for your knee. but i would recommend that you go buy a knee brace at your local pharmacy and put it on while you await to see a doctor. if your knee is swolln (compare to other knee), and you're not allergic to any medications, take Advil or Motrin as directed to decrease the swelling. good luck!
