Severe pain in my Achilles tendon area?!

Question: Severe pain in my Achilles tendon area?
For the last four days I have great difficulty in putting my foot to the floor I get a terrific pain in my Achilles tendon and even after four days of rest I still cannot walk unaided and cannot put any weight on my foot.

To the best of my knowledge I have not done myself an injury but have had pain in my Achille heel on and off for the past 12 months.

Knowing your age would have been helpful. The Achilles tendon does not have the greatest blood supply and this can deteriorate with age, smoking and lack of regular exercise do not help either. As a result fibres of the tendon can snap either with minimal trauma or even spontaneously. Another problem that can cause pain in the area is a leg clot. You need to get the calf checked out by your local doctor.

It sounds like Achilles Tendinitis. The Achilles tendon has a poor blood supply so it is slow to heal if there is any kind of injury or strain to the area. The best treatment for this is rest, ice, and compression to the area. In other words you should wrap your ankle and foot, just like you would for a sprained ankle, with an ace wrap and wear it for several days. Do not wrap it too tightly. You just want medium pressure to the area. This will take some of the pressure off the tendon and also give it some support. Do not wear the ace bandage at night when you are asleep. Sometimes if this is not treated properly the achilles tendon can rupture so you should see your doctor. Keep your foot elevated, apply an ice pack 3-4 times a day, and wear the ace wrap during the day. Try to stay off your foot and make an appointment with your doctor.
Good luck and I hope you feel better soon. I've had this same problem myself and it is painful.
