bad shoulder pain and painful subluxation but normal MRI?!

Question: Bad shoulder pain and painful subluxation but normal MRI?
I started PT for swimmers shoulder 3 weeks ago. I had to stop last week because it increased my pain to the point where I couldn't move. The subluxations and instability got MUCH worse. Now it pops out when I lift anything heavier than a cell phone. My MRI came back completely normal- I am really frustrated because my arm isn't functional. I didn't get the contrast. My doctor just said that my ligaments were probably super stretched out. WHat's wrong?

Popping or clicking in the shoulder can be related to many causes. Sometimes it is caused by a cartilage tear or rotator cuff tear that is rubbing within the joint. Other times, it can be due to subtle instability, or the shoulder is coming in and out of socket.

Instability is more common in younger patients, this is the sensation of the shoulder coming out of socket. Sometimes this entails dislocations, where the head completely pops out of the socket. Other times, instability causes "subluxations" which are partial dislocations. Often, the patient may not know that their shoulder is subluxating, and feel only pain.
