Headache for five days! HELP?!?!

Question: Headache for five days! HELP?!?
I got a very bad headache on Monday. One where I was seeing blindspots and other weird things were going on like nausea and stuff. Someone told me they might be migraines, but I'm confused. I am only fourteen, I thought teens don't get migraines. I will get a headache after five or six hours it dies down, but it will get worse again to the point where I will not be able to stand light or sound. After the really bad headache it feels almost like I've been in like a trainwreck and I have a slight headache and then the big headache will come back. The pain seems to be almost like a headband painfully squeezing my head. It has died down a tiny bit now but it gets bad at times. It's friday and I still have it. Anyone know of a way to get rid of it? Or what might be causing these? Would really be appreciated (and I didn't hit my head off of anything or have an injury to the head if any of you are wondering) Thanks in advance

Answers:

Yes, teenagers can get migraines. I can't diagnose your headache, but it sounds like it might be a migraine. To be sure this is what you are having you should have your parents make an appointment with your doctor. There are medications that you can take to help with the pain. It is also very important to get really bad headaches checked out because (not to scare you) but sometimes they may be caused by other very rare but serious problems.

Things that might help with the pain include taking advil or tylenol as soon as the pain starts up. If you wait, it is harder for the medicine to work. Also, resting in the dark can help. Caffeine will help migraines and maybe having some Coke, a cup of coffee, or tea might help also, but you need to do this as soon as the headache starts.

The most important thing though is to tell your parents and get evaluated by your pediatrician.

I'm an RN

go to the doctor or like to the meadician place in target or something you prolly just have a mirgain and should take like tilanol sry cant spell but just go to your doctor or like the medicain pace in a store

Migraines honey. I get the same thing when i get migraines.

Take some strong headache tablets and find a dark quiet room and sleep.
It should help if not. Go to the doctors. :)

This is definatly a migraine hun, they can last for hours or days. They are extremley common (and painfull) especially at your age. I started suffering them at roughly the same age as you and still have them now. There's lots of different medication you can take from pain killers to prevention i take Clonidine which is Migraine prevention and it's been amazing!
Try to stay out of bright light when you get one, lie down with a wet cloth over your forehead in a nice cool dark room. You will also need to go to your GP about it and whatever you do don't sit at the pc/laptop ;)
Good luck hunni xx
