Closed reduction of the wrist, with pinning... experiences or advice?!

Question:

Closed reduction of the wrist, with pinning... experiences or advice?

I have a distal radius fracture, and will have to definitely go in for surgery early this week, with 2 possibilities, one of which involves a closed reduction with percutaneous pinning. The other would be ORIF. I won't find out which one I've had done until after the surgery.

I am terrified. I would like to hear from other people who have gone through this, and what their experiences were like.
Some of my fears involve pain and scarring.. Is the pain after surgery very painful? Is it worst then actually breaking it? What about scarring? Does it fade over time? Is this a risky procedure? Any final advice?

Thank you

Answers:

I broke both my wrist at the same time. OUCH!!!! One wrist the had broken both bones. When i went in that put pins in, but the pins stuck out of my wrist and i looked like i had two little eyeballs on my wrist. It initially hurt but the pain went away. I had them in for about 6 weeks. They removed the pins, Which hurt, and now i have no problems except my wrist is a little bigger and i can not face my palm up 100%. I probably go abou 90%.
I am not sure if that is what ur getting, but i bet you will do fine.
