is it bad to take my prescribed vicodin even when im not in a lot of pain?!


Question: Is it bad to take my prescribed vicodin even when im not in a lot of pain?
i was reading somewher eonline that vicodin works better BEFORE the pain kicks in. for the past few days ive been having some pretty bad pains so ive juts been taking the vicodin as prescribed which is a pill every 4 hours. well i dont take it every 4 hours but ive been taking it about every 6 to 8 hours.
is this bad? or should i just take it when i feel i really need it

You're fine as long as you're not taking it more often than the doctor indicates, but for practical reasons it's probably best to hold on to them in case you find yourself in a lot of pain later. It is true that they work best if you are anticipating pain. It's really up to you.

As long as you taking it as prescribed, then no, it is not bad. I am also taking vicodin for a tooth infections. The bottle says to take one to two pills every 4 to 6 hours. So I take about one ever 5 hours. I am doing just as the doctor told me to do. Nothing wrong with that at all.
