Can roller coasters cause scoliosis?!

Question:

Can roller coasters cause scoliosis?

I have scoliosis and have been figuring out how I got it. My mothers side of the family had like 1 case of it, but its still unknown to doctors of how people get it. I rode the 'double loop' at Six flags once with my friend. During the ride my body was smacked against the seat and once I got off my whole back was in pain especially my spine. Right after that incident I got scoliosis about 1 1/2 years later. If it could/possibly be true then I am sueing those baggers. Steel coasters are not fun.

Answers:

I think it's pretty unlikely. It's not easy for your spine to just move, with all the muscles and such attached to it. There is some evidence that scoliosis is hereditary, and there is also evidence that trauma as a child (while you are still growing and developing) can have an influence. Such as, when you are a young child, and you fall HARD on your behind, if you cause trauma such as a pinched disc, it can throw off the alignment of your spine as it grows. But, I really, really doubt that a ride on a coaster gave you scoliosis.
