What are spams and what causes them to occur?!

What are spams and what causes them to occur?

I have occasional pains in different areas of my body. More often, my head. (headaches) Sometimes, muscles in my chest area. I asked my biology teacher about this and she says it's probably spasms which are due to lack of sleep. For extra info, im a very anxious person in nature and always sleep late.
I want to know more about spasms and how they occur or what illness to you think i might have to have induced the occasional pains.

"spams" = " spasms"

Could be a magnesium deficiency.
