Question:

I have a weak right ankle that hurts when I walk long distances. Would is help to wear an ankle brace?

I am a former dancer and have sprained my right ankle multiple times. I experience pain walking and running long distances. Would wearing a brace help me at all?

Answers:

It is "chronic lateral displacement" and you are stuck with it. A lot of athletes have it, and the only relief is a brace or surgery. I opted out of surgery because you could end up with a fused ankle that no longer bends. I have found that the hard plastic kind that cups both ankles connected by a strap at the bottom provides the greatest relief and support. Doesn't look too good with the" little black dress", but can't have it all.
