I hurt my knee from running, anyone know whats wrong with it?!

Question: I hurt my knee from running, anyone know whats wrong with it?
About 2 weeks ago I ran 7 miles (not a lot for me but I hadn't ran ina while so I guess it was a lot) After the run my knees hurt but I ran every day for 3 days after that, just less than 7 miles and my knees still hurt. Then my left knee didn't bother me but my right knee hurt even worse and now it still hurts and I can't run. It doesn't really bother me unless I try running, but it does hurt sometimes when I'm not running, usually when I have it bent in a weird way or something, but only sometimes. Sometimes when I stretch my leg I can hear a cracking noise. Whats wrong with my knee? Is it runners knee or what? If I went to the doctor (which I really really dont want to do) how would they figure out whats wrong with it, they wouldn't give me a needle or anything right?

Sorry theres so many questions in there, but please help!

Answers:

It sounds like runners knee, or patellofemoral pain syndrom. This is a tough injury to treat because every time you run it gets irritated again. However taking breaks when it hurts, icing it, and using a brace all help. Look into buying a brace. If you went to the doctor thats probably what they would tell you. If you want a good brace that will last, look at some of these. http://www.braceshop.com/productcart/pc/… But if your on a tight budget, just go to your nearest drug store like kroger, target, walmart, walgreens, or cvs. Look for either a brace with a hole around the kneecap, or look for a thin strap type brace. Its great for runners knee and it goes underneath your kneecap to take pressure off of it and make it feel better.
