20 years ago many orthopaedic surgeons turned patients into invalids, they suggested that the more you used a damaged joint the worse it became.
The more modern school of thought is basically always in favour of as much mobilisation as possible. Use it or loose it is a good motto, the less she does the less she will be able to do.
