What is this pain in my neck and left shoulder blade area?!

Question:

What is this pain in my neck and left shoulder blade area?

It's very tender and hurts. I generally crack my neck on my own but I can't do that anymore because of the pain. It's the left dside of my neck and down to my shoulderb lades front and back. It hurts... I didn't lift anything or strain it that I'm aware of. I just woke up with it,

Answers:

More than likely you have pulled the muscle in your neck .. that can happen while sleeping. Put some heat on it for 10 to 20 minutes three or four times a day. After 24 to 48-hours, if it still hurts, ice the area for 10 to 20 minutes every hour. You can use Ben-Gay, Icy Hot or any local creams that supply heat and those over the counter heat patchs .. just follow instructions.

Also, if you can, have someone GENTLY massage the neck and shoulder muscles ... front and back. That will help any inflamation. If, however, the pain does not improve or worsens, call your doctor. More than likely if you don't remember an injury, it is an inflamed (injured) muscle. Work the neck and shoulder gently ... don't let it freeze up by not using it ... that will be worse.

Good luck! ;>)
