Is it possible to to be addicted to diuretics?!

Question:

Is it possible to to be addicted to diuretics?

I have prescriptions for HCTZ, 25mg and Lacix, 20mg because I have been battling water retention more so than ever since the birth of my youngest child. I can retain up to 20lbs of water in a DAY from morning to bed time, even without my mense. Problem is, the little bit of diuretic that I had to BEG my Primary Physician to prescribe is NOT enough, and I have limited transportation, so I can't just leave and go to the doc like that. My father has a HIGH prescription for Lacix-80mg- and if my body feels as swollen as it does, I take one or two of those. Not all the time, and I know I shouldn't...But, I also take more than what has been prescribed to me, because that seems to be the ONLY thing that works. I have talked to more than one of the docs at the clinic I go to, and one of them even saw me when I was 27 lbs bloated, and my blood pressure was perfect, and my blood work was perfect-yet still, she did not up my prescription that I begged her to...

I am tired of being a size 14 one day and a size 16/18 the next. I am tired of my skin feeling like it is going to pop, including on my face.

See, I thought that at first too-hormones. My son is almost TWO, though! I tried Diurex and the main ingredient is caffeine. I get more caffeine from a pot of coffee than I do from the OTC diuretics, and less *shakes*! And it still doesn't make me urinate...Deficate, yes, but not urinate.
WHICH I also have a problem with-constipation. A single dose NEVER works, and trust me, I DO get alot of fiber in my diet!

Answers:

I think you may need to go back to your doc, or even talk to a different one. Maybe your OB/GYN and let them know what's been going on with you-being completely honest about how you've been stealing your Dad's diuretics. 80mg of Lacix is an AWFULLY high dose, and usually meant for those with congestive heart failure. I'm assuming you don't have that with "perfect blood pressure."
You should definately get a second opinion. Maybe you are having a systemic problem that a regular PCP wouldn't think to check you for.
All the best.
