How long is the recovery period for a knee arthroscopy?!

Question:

How long is the recovery period for a knee arthroscopy?

I'm having a knee arthroscopy done on the 24th of July. I'm an athlete and a person that can't stand to sit still. August 4th I'm supposed to be seeing a friend that lives about 3 1/2 hours away from me. Can anyone tell me how long the recovery period is and if I'll be able to make the trip? (I'm not driving).

Answers:

I had knee arthroscopy done 2 years ago. The healing time for everybody is different. Yours is going to depend on exactly what the doctor is going to do during your surgery. Mine consisted of removing a chunk of tissue, and repairing my meniscus. I was on crutches for about 2 months, in therapy about a month later. However, within three days I was able to do stuff, just with my crutches. Travelling on the 4th of August is something you'll most likely be able to do, just make sure you have plenty of room in the car to stretch, and that you get out at rest stops if you need too. Good Luck!
