2 year old has lots of mouth sores?

My son (2 years old) was very sick a couple of days ago, he was running high fevers and could not hold anything down. I ended up in the ER and was there until his fever broke. Last night I noticed a sore on his lip and thought it must be a cold sore. This morning during breakfast he would not eat and was sticking his fingers in his mouth so I grabbed a flashlight and looked inside and saw another sore. This afternoon I went to put some more medicine on the sores and noticed that he had so many more sores. They are on his tongue, in between teeth, on his cheeks, and inside lower lip. Are these still cold sores? I was told that that are just on the outside, and they don't look like Canker sores. Could these have been caused by the fevers he was having? Anything a Doctor will do, or will they just tell me to use the pain reliever from the store?

Thank you all that have answered. I just noticed a little bit of blood when he took a drink of water so i'm going to head over to an urgent care center to see what this is and if we can get him some relief, I feel so bad for him. I will update when I can. Thanks again.

It does sound like it was from the fever . Some kids get those sores from chocolate when they are young - but since your baby was ill , it's very likely from fever . If it's still there when you take him for a follow-up , mention it to the pediatrician . If he can take tylenol - that is most likely what they'd recommend - but you might call the doctors' office - just to play it safe .
