I have a question about managed meds and major surgery?

Someone having had a similar experience, please give me some
feedback, because I'm really worried--fears that or
Hopefully/probably unwarranted, but either way, let me know what you
think!

I'm having major surgery very soon! Doctor in charge is not the
doctor who prescribes my (lets just say) TABOO medication-I'm sure
you know what it is? She would like me to be completely off of the
medication long before the surgery, but admit nurse says the
anesthesiologist is in charge of all meds and says you can take it up
until midnight before the surgery. My question is, eventhough
they're going to be medicating me w/ other meds- will I still suffer
withdrawals either before or during my sedation? Other question, will
my tolerance levels affect the anesthesia? Will it be less
affective?

My last question! What medicines would be best and still work on me
during my recoup period in the hospital. Taken into consideration,
it will be somewhat less than what I take on a regular basis. I
still don't want to be in a lot of pain?? WHO does? ANY
recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I hope I can calm
down and relax before and during this process. I've been on this
medication for a LONG time!! Thanks,

Ok. BUT let's try and evaluate this...
I have had chronic pain for 20 years and it is my experience that the dr would not cut you off your meds?? FIND OUT WHY. It is the DR's orders that the anesthiologist follows, but I do know when I asked My anesth a question they did discuss with the doctor. So for the Nurse to be saying OK isn't exactly the best advice to listen TO.

I would if I were you, write down all of these questions that you have and ask for the procedure that they are going to follow. this way your "unknowns' wont be so fearful. there is nothing worse the not knowing what the hell is going on and why each person in charge of your care cannot agree.

Ultimately YOU are responsible for your care and it is up to you to know what is going on, Right? Reading your info over and over - I think that the Nurse is giving you what is "common" for your procedure.

There are a LOT of unknowns with your question and to start naming meds isnt fair to you or the general population reading the reponse.

I would reallly like to answer you but This is hard because there are alot of unknowns.. The dr recommends what you need. I would find out WHY no meds.

Your anesth. and you REALLY need to discuss this and then she can take it up with the Doctor. What is good for one is NOT good for all.
BUt the thing is if the dr is wanting you off all meds- that makes NO sense. and how many days before is she having you get off them... In my experience they want you as comfortable as possible and if taking daily meds is going to relieve some anxiety then that is probably ok, but find out WHY she didnt want you to be taking them.

Withdrawals, NO. They are trained professionals to make sure that there are enough meds on board and you wont go thru that. and if you tell the doctor that you are uncomfortable then they for sure will give u something to relieve that.
Your body will give off pain signals and the anesth will know what you need- dont worry!! BP etc.

Dont know what u are having done, dont know what to advise. But i would imagine that if u are having a BIG surgery, u will get a PCA machine called patient controlled anesthesia (ASK THEM otherwise) that is usally the "big meds" and i know what you mean - do u know what i mean? lol i liked it - i had it after back and gallbladder surgery.

Rest assured that YOU are in charge of your medical care that if You can not agree with the dr that you should request someone else.
