Didn't you notice anything at the time? I go barefoot always and everywhere, but on the rare occasions I get a small splinter (never had a cut) I notice immediately, and I just pick it out with tweezers. If you only noticed it this morning I'm thinking it may be a strain injury or something. Or had you gone drinking so you may not've noticed? I'd wash up, check with tweezers, if you can't find anything soak your foot and look again (soaking softens the skin). Chances are you'll be able to get it out yourself, I've never needed a doctor for any splinters anywhere in my body (I get them in my hands far more often since I do a lot of gardening and don't like to wear gloves. I find picking one out left-handed can be harder than getting one out of my foot using both hands, but I always get them). But if you really can't see what you're doing or can't stand to poke around in there yourself, then see your doctor, he'll check it out for you. Oh, and if it's a deep puncture, you may need a tetanus shot if you aren't up to date for it (good idea to keep that vaccination up regardless, there are other ways of catching it apart from stepping on something barefoot).

And don't worry about people scolding you for going barefoot, it's fun, comfortable, and injuries are rare. For some stupid reason people get all hyped up about bare feet saying you should've worn shoes; but if you'd cut your hand, or if you'd worn heels and twisted your ankle, they wouldn't be bugging you about gloves or high-heeled shoes, they'd just say 'accidents happen'. So hope your cut or injury heals soon, & don't let a single incident put you off.
