Shoulder pain diagnosis?!

Question: Shoulder pain diagnosis?
Today is March 14, 2011. The pain in my shoulder started a few days ago. I'm wondering what it could possibly be from.

This pain is in my right shoulder, and if you were to put your fingers on the very top of your shoulder and move it DOWN very slightly to where that bone is that is where it is hurting. The pain will mostly come at night and does not always hurt. Sometimes it feels more like a tension. Also if I am standing up and I put my hand on the top of my shoulder, lift my arm up parallel to the floor, and apply pressure with my fingers on my shoulder then slowly lower my arm, I can feel almost a grinding.

Also, while I am lying down (or it sometimes happens while I'm standing up): If I put my hands on the back of my head, bring my elbows together, and then back again my shoulder will make a popping sound, and it isn't exactly slight. You can hear it, and it is pretty distinct. Anyway, please help. The last thing I want to do is go to the doctor and spend money on an xray (it would be out of pocket). It would help to get some expertise in this.

Answers:

The most common cause of shoulder pain is injury to the soft tissues including the muscles, tendons, and ligaments within these structures. Broken collarbone:
Bursitis: A bursa is a sac over the joints to provide a cushion to the joints and muscles. These bursae can become swollen and painful after injuries.
Numbness: If the nerves are pinched, bruised, or cut, you may not be able to feel things normally. This may cause a burning sensation, a loss of sensation, or an altered sensation similar to having your arm "fall asleep." For persisting pain in the shoulder or neck, an evaluation by a health-care professional is appropriate.Rest, Ice and proper medication (aceclofenac and unanesthetic ointments) may help a little.

I have the same thing I have a cervical strain and a shoulder strain. You need to go see a doctor.
