I was thinking about becomng an EMT but I was wondering how often they get hurt/killed or injured badly on the job
Answers:
The only thing you have to worry about is getting hurt while dealing with pt's that have been on drugs, alcohol, or those that have mental issues. But that rarely happens. You have plenty of help on the side for those kind of folks i.e PD, FD, and bystanders. I've been a medic for 12 years and I have yet to get hurt on the job. The only time you hear about anyone getting hurt, it's usually due to being in a MVC while going to the scene. Other that that, the rewards are worth that small risk.
