How can I relieve the stress (tightness) in my neck and shoulders?!

Question:

How can I relieve the stress (tightness) in my neck and shoulders?

I've always been a very nervous person who is anxious about almost everything. As you can see, i get stressed easily and i get panic attacks quite often too. Is there any method / way that i can adapt to relieve the tightness in my neck? This tightness is causing me much discomfort and i always feel that i can't really breathe properly. Please Help!

Answers:

This is my favorite acupressure technique. I promise you that it will give you relief. You can do this to yourself, but having someone else do it to you allows you to relax even more.

Firmly grasp the meaty part of the back of your neck with the palm of your hand and the flat surfaces of your fingers (NOT the tips of your fingers). Hold that grip for about a minute.

Then using the same grip, grasp each of the two muscles running from the sides of the neck to the tops of the shoulder (called the trapezius muscles). Again hold each grip for a minute. If you are doing the trapezius grips to yourself, you might find it helpful to support your arm doing the work with your free arm by pushing up slightly on the elbow...at least I find it helps me when I'm doing it to myself.

Feel free to repeat the grips as often as necessary throughout the day.
