Trouble sleeping when have something to do in the morming, otherwise sleep like !

Question:

Trouble sleeping when have something to do in the morming, otherwise sleep like a baby?

Last summer I had a HORRIBLE job. Lets just say that the office enviornment was not friendly. It was my first corporate job and it ended up be the worst. I started getting anxious and having trouble sleeping. I tried Lunesta and didnt really help. Once I quit the job after 2 months, I slept just fine. Now a year later, I found another corporate job and am starting this morning. I AGAIN, could not sleep last night. I am tired but when I lay in bed, just cant fall asleep. I am afraid that I may be anxious about the new job and I dont want this because I am EXCITED. I dont want being exhausted from not sleeping to impede me either. What can I do??? I dont want to take medication. I have already tried reading in another room, tried warm milk, and melatonin pills!!!!

This may sound like a silly question, but do you anything else in bed, like eat, watch t.v., bring home work and then sit in bed to work on it, etc? I used to have trouble sleeping. When I took the t.v. out of my room and used my bed for only sleeping and "extra cirricular" activities, I found that helped a bit. You have to remember, at bed time it's quiet and that is when our brains finally get a moments peace to think about all the things we pushed aside during the day while doing other things. I found two things that help me when I can't sleep. First, I try relaxation techniques. I start at my head and invision every muscle relaxing to the point that my head is so relaxed that I can't even lift it. From there I move to the muscles in my face, neck, shoulders... all the way down my body to my toes thinking of every possible body part I can relax. If that doesn't work, I think about a very happy moment in my life, such as the day my sons were born. I try to remember every little detail of that day from the moment I woke up the day they were born to the moment I finally held them in my arm. This helps me to have a focus that keeps me from thinking of what is bothering me. Try taking a hot shower using a relaxing body wash and lotion, such as one with lavendar. If you can't sleep, don't stay in bed for hours. After a half hour of not being able to fall asleep get up and watch some t.v., read, or maybe play a game of solitaire.

Good luck!! I know how frustrating not being able to sleep can be.
