How can you ease the pain of a "stiff knee"?!

Question:

How can you ease the pain of a "stiff knee"?

My not-too elderly grandmother has recently been complaining of stiff joints in her knees, which makes it very uncomfortable to stand upright (i.e. getting up from the bed or a chair) or walk up down stairs. I am afraid she has osteoarthritis, and she has a scheduled doctor's appt. early July. But in the mean time, is there anything she can do to ease the pain or to keep her from getting worse? Thank you!

Answers:

Arthritis is a corrosive disease. there is no way of stopping it once it hits. unfortunately there isn't really any pain relief medication she can get off prescription.
Are you in Australia? - "A little bit of relief" cream may help. or Tiger balm.
Tell her to keep as warm as possible so her joints don't cease up.
