My wrists HURTS. Please help.?!

Question:

My wrists HURTS. Please help.?

Ok, for like the last two days, my left wrist has been hurting me, right on the part of the wrist below the thumb. It doesnt hurt when i move it up and down. ONly when i move it side to side. It hurts really bad when i open a door..to where i cant even turn the knob. What do you think can be wrong. There is no swelling from what i can see. Please help. Do you think its Carpal Tunnel Syndrome? Bruised Growth Plate? Fractured? Please help me.

Answers:

A lot of responders suggested it might be carpal tunnel. Yes, I agree, it could be that due to your symptoms, but it could also be a scaphoid fracture. You are describing pretty much the same symptoms as a scaphoid fracture. So, at this point, you need to evaluate your history prior to your symptoms. If you were doing a lot of repetitive motion in the hands, computer keyboard, grocery checking, that sort of thing, I would think it might be carpal tunnel. However, If you can recall some specific time recently that you injured that area, like falling on outstretched hand or some sort of specific trauma to that area, I would lean more on Scaphoid Fx. Scaphoid fractures very often don't show up on an x-ray, so a MRI would be needed. They are also slow healing due to the poor blood supply in the scaphoid. The only way to know for sure is to see an Otho Doc and let him examine it. They also have a specific test to check for carpal tunnel that is done by palpatating the wrist. But get it checked, for sure by an ortho MD. It's hard to say which would be the worst to have. Carpal tunnell is fixed by rest and bracing, but usually requires a simple surgery, Schapoid fractures usually don,t need surgery, (in some cases they do). They are mostly treated in a thumb spica cast for about 2-3 months.
A lot of people will give you answers based on their own personal experience or a friends experience, and some people who answer are clueless, maybe even me. Most answers are well intentioned, but really, go to the pros who see this kind of thing several times a day, every day for years.
Who are you gonna trust? I would love to hear what your diagnosis is, so try and post it somehow. Good luck, Rick
