Do pets belong in a children's ward?!

Question:

Do pets belong in a children's ward?

i am a pediatrician. i am thinking of implementing pet therapy for the kids in my hospital. as in having a domesticated animal where they could interact with occasionally. perhaps it might even take their minds off painful procedures.

anybody with experience in this? which animals would fit the bill (in terms of maintenance, noise and poo pollution, transmissible diseases etc)?

may be going against the grain where i come from. so would like to make the first attempt a success if i could. thanks for your comments and suggestions!

Answers:

There have been many profound studies regarding the implementation of pet therapy. Even if you are going against the grain, if you present it in the appropriate format your superiors should be able to see how theraputic it could be.

Best of Luck to you.
