What might be causing my dizziness?!

Question:

What might be causing my dizziness?

Last year sometime in June I collapsed after a hot shower, the room spinning around me. I initially thought it was a result of the hot water, but I was bed ridden for the whole weekend, & the dizziness was dangerous for about a week. It continued sporadically for 3 or 4 months, then just went.

Three weeks ago the dizziness started again. I haven't collapsed this time, but suffer terrible nausea.

The doctor suggested stress last time & prescribed sleeping tablets which I didn't take.

My mother is convinced it is an inner ear infection, but I've been on a course of anti-bacs & there is no change to the dizziness.

It is usual to get dizzy standing from a lying position, but what is wierd, I can be lying flat totally still and then i feel like a jolt or 'click' in my head, & the room starts to spin.

I don't want to see a doc yet until I've got my medical and critical illness cover sorted.

Any suggestions?

Answers:

that sounds to me like you have what i am just getting over which is LABYRINTHINITUS not sure if spelling is right, you really need to ask your doctor he will do some simple tests on you. you also want to ask doc about anti nausea tablets (stemetil) they will start to work after the 2nd or 3rd tablet and mine started with a inner ear infection.
