Last night I slept 9.5 hours, woke up sleepy. At noon today I want to take a nap. Why am I always SLEEPY?

Is there a reason medically that makes someone, not tired, but sleepy all day long? I can sleep 14-15 hours a day or more if allowed. This isn't normal. My husband is getting concerned.

Listen to the RN above. You may have sleep apnea. I was diagnosed with it 2 years ago.

Same symptoms; always tired, took frequent naps, would be watching a great football game and decide to sleep for a quarter or two.

Basically, your body is constantly waking up because you have stopped breathing. For me, it was a combination of gaining weight, turning 30 (age increases the chance of getting it), and having a big tongue. You wake up to resume breathing, and then fall back asleep, never knowing that this ever happened! This can happen several times an hour depending on how bad you have it. These constant interruptions are disturbing your sleep cycles and preventing you from getting proper REM sleep. Thus you are tired, even though you think you have had adequate sleep.

Go to the doctor, and you will undergo a sleep study. Basically you go the hospital/clinic one night and sleep there. As your sleeping, they are watching you and observing you. Half way through, they will give you a CPAP mask, which is a mask you wear that gently blows oxygen in thru your nose and mouth as you sleep. This air pressure keeps your air passages open and you sleep throughout the night. It will take time to adjust to sleeping with the mask.

But now I no longer take naps and cannot sleep without my mask. (I sound like an infomercial)
