Amitriptyline?!

Question:

Amitriptyline?

I am taking amitriptyline and the papers that came with it says its used for depression. However, I have been looking around here and it sounds like its for headaches. Now I did go to the doctors over the fact I have headaches so it would make since that he gave me headache pills, but I was told it was for depression(I also told him I was feeling depressed during the same visit) and the papers that came with it say so too. Which is it?

Also, I read that amitriptyline is a white pill. However mine is a small blue bill with a V on it, but its sorta like a curvy V and on the back is the numbers 2101. This is the right pill isn't it?

Answers:

Amitriptyline is used for several different purposes.
It was originally intended for depression, but now is not usually prescribed for depression alone. But since you complained of headaches, I'm sure your doctor intended to take care of both problems with one drug. It is a great drug for chronic headaches as well. It is also prescribed for nerve damage and neuropathy. Sounds as if you have a reliable doctor since he prescribed one drug to take care of both of your complaints instead of loading you up with multiple scripts, as alot of doctors do these days. Also if you have questions about drugs that are prescribed to you, you can always as a pharmacist when you are filling the prescription.
Good Luck, hope it helps with your complaints
